About the Bridgerweight Division

Weight Limit: 200-224 lbs (90.7-101.6 kg)

Bridgerweight is a relatively new division created by the WBC in 2020 to bridge the gap between Cruiserweight and Heavyweight. The division was named after six-year-old Bridger Walker, who saved his sister from a dog attack.

Division Characteristics

Bridgerweight fighters are typically too large for Cruiserweight but smaller than traditional Heavyweights. This division allows fighters in this weight range to compete for world titles without facing the size disadvantage of fighting much larger heavyweights.

Notable Facts

As a newer division, Bridgerweight is still establishing its identity in the boxing world. The WBC and WBA are two major organizations that recognize this weight class.

Historical Context

The creation of Bridgerweight addresses a long-standing gap in boxing's weight class structure, providing opportunities for fighters who fall between Cruiserweight and Heavyweight.
